Most Matcha is a blend, like blended wine. Blended Matcha may be harmonious year to year, but the individual character of the tea is lost.
At Ooika, we focus on single-cultivar Matcha from distinguished farmers across Japan with whom we hold personal relationships. All ground fresh, in-house, here in the United States.
Interest in single-vintage, single-cultivar matcha is relatively new—but we feel it is a worthwhile endeavor—to highlight the ephemeral quality of nature and craftsmanship of the tea farmers.
Bridging the Gap Between Matcha and Farmer

You’d reject an espresso with coffee ground yesterday — let alone months go.
Odorants (flavor molecules) fade, oils oxidize, and antioxidants break down after milling. Why accept that for Matcha, which is more delicate?
At Ooika we only sell Matcha we mill ourselves in the USA. It’s more expensive, but experiencing Matcha without compromise is worth it.
All Ooika Matcha includes the Mill Date clearly listed on the packaging.
Fresh ground Matcha loses it’s freshness after milling. Even worse, the higher the quality the Matcha, the faster it loses it’s freshness as it’s smaller particle size means more surface area.
